After winning its second consecutive national championship, Texas volleyball is already planning ahead to try to win its third.

Whitney Lauenstein, an outside hitter for Nebraska, announced on Tuesday that she is transferring to Texas after entering the transfer portal earlier this month.

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, Lauenstein had an impressive sophomore season. Averaging 2.78 kills per set and a .238 hitting percentage, she earned AVCA All-Region honors in her second season as a Husker. In 32 matches played, Lauenstein served a team-high 28 service aces. She led the Huskers in scoring, with 383.5 points on the year.

She played her whole 2022 season before stepping away from volleyball to focus on her family and to grieve the passing of her father.

Lauenstein has two more years of eligibility. With the program’s loss of two key opposite hitters in Molly Phillips and Asjia O’Neal, the Texas coaching staff may look to coach Lauenstein as an opposite hitter or make other positional adjustments. Phillips announced her transfer to USC beach volleyball on Wednesday and O’Neal is out of eligibility.
