On Labor Day, participating studios across the city open their doors for free in honor of Austin’s Free Day of Yoga. Whether a downward dog seems like a heroic feat or a five-minute headstand feels like light work, the yogi holiday allows people of all experience levels to try something new and reap the mental and physical benefits from yoga. The Daily Texan compiled a list of studios and their offered classes so readers need only to find the one that suits them best.
For the first time ever, UT’s very own RecSports will celebrate Free Yoga Day by hosting a free hour-long class at 9 a.m. at the Gregory Gym Plaza. Open to both UT affiliates and the public, this class will energize with an invigorating vinyasa practice — a form of yoga that focuses on smooth transitions and breath coordination. Remember, BYOM — bring your own mat!
Located in a renovated craftsman home at the heart of downtown Austin and known for its heated classes, PURE Yoga will open a wide array of classes for the public to experience. From hot yoga to vinyasa to pilates, try one of the 12 classes offered throughout the day between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Level up mind, body and spirit at one of the four vinyasa classes offered at the East Austin studio that believes “health is wealth.” Open to all levels, reserve a spot ahead of time to ensure a frictionless free yoga experience.
For those wanting to avoid driving, Austin Yoga Tree will offer virtual classes! If doing yoga in the comfort of your own home sounds more appealing than heading over to a studio, pop open your laptop and browse one of their virtual hatha, vinyasa or iyengar yoga classes.
Starting the day with mindful morning class and ending with a restorative, sound healing session, this North Austin studio offers classes to yogis of all levels. Committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all, Studio Satya presents the perfect opportunity for those interested in trying yoga for the first time.
The Retreat by Mantra Yoga Collective
Mantra Yoga Collective boasts a vibrant community with exceptional teachers and embraces “the power of mindful connection through movement.” Located in Northwest Austin, this studio will offer two beginner classes and, for anyone wanting to get their sweat on, one challenging hot yoga session.
