- No. 1 Georgia: It took the Bulldogs 30 minutes of football to find their rhythm against Clemson. The Bulldogs took off running, dominating No. 25 Clemson 34-3. Georgia will ease into its home opener this week, taking on an 0–1 FCS school in Tennessee Tech.
- No. 3 Texas: The Longhorns did a lot of impressing in their opening game, shutting out Colorado State 52-0. The Longhorns now look ahead to the Big House as they get ready to take on No. 10 Michigan in week two. Before the Horns can get to their start of SEC play, they must first take a bite from the Big 10 apple.
- No. 4 Alabama: Fourth in the country, Alabama feels oddly undervalued this year. Redshirt junior quarterback Jalen Milroe threw for 200 yards on just seven completions, with 139 of those yards being thrown to freshman five star wide receiver Ryan Williams.
- No. 6 Ole Miss: Senior quarterback Jaxson Dart threw himself on the map in a blowout opening win against Furman. Ole Miss returned 16 of its 22 starters from last year’s team, the second-most in the SEC, and the Rebels look to elevate their record to 2–0 as they take on Middle Tennessee State University this week.
- No. 14 Tennessee: The Volunteers were rolling in their season debut, crushing Chattanooga 69-3. Tennessee struggled against ranked opponents last season, going just 1–3, but looks to change the script this year as they face No. 24 NC State in week two.
- No. 9 Missouri: Missouri, who has not been in the top-10 this early in the season since 2008, shut out Murray State in its opener. Concluding with a 14-3 Cotton Bowl win against Ohio State, the Tigers went 11–2 last year. Brady Cook, a graduate student quarterback, returns for his third year as the starter, and looks to bring the Tigers to the first ever 12-team college football playoff.
- No.15 Oklahoma: The story that will follow Oklahoma this season is: How good is Jackson Arnold? The former five-star was ranked 10th in his class by 247sports and comes into the season with high expectations. In his first opening game, Arnold found success, throwing for 141 yards and four touchdowns on zero interceptions, and will look to build onto that success at home against Houston next week.
- Auburn: Auburn had a disappointing season last year, going 6–7 and losing to Maryland in its bowl game 31-13. Auburn dominated in its first game against Alabama A&M, and looks to build off their momentum against California next week.
- No. 18 LSU: Vegas wasn’t kind to the Tigers as LSU starts its season off with a loss. Head coach Brian Kelly slammed his fist in the post game presser after the loss to USC and said that he was “so angry about (the loss) that (he had) to do something about it.” One can only wait and see what that means.
- Texas A&M: The Aggies fell to No. 7 Notre Dame for a tough start in Aggieland. The offense never seemed to click as Texas A&M only got into the endzone once. Sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman threw two picks, and the Irish defense locked down Kyle Field.
