As college football enters its fifth week, SEC teams are currently taking up five out of the top six spots in the AP Poll with Texas at No. 1.
No. 1 Texas
After several dominant performances, Texas moved to No. 1 after week three. Even without junior quarterback Quinn Ewers, redshirt freshman Arch Manning took the reins and kept Texas on top. The Longhorns will butt heads with unranked Mississippi State as they open SEC play.
No. 2 Georgia
The Bulldogs dropped the No. 2 after an uncomfortably close game against Kentucky during week three. Georgia took a bye week before preparing for a face-off against Alabama. To keep their top-three spot the Bulldogs will have to lock in on their play schemes to dominate the Tide.
No. 4 Alabama
The Tide rolled on after cruising to a victory against the Wisconsin Badgers, moving them to a No. 4 ranking. Settling for a bye during week four, Alabama has all the momentum to overtake Georgia in a battle for a top-five ranking.
No. 5 Tennessee
Tennessee opened its SEC season on the road against No. 15 Oklahoma and dominated with a score of 25-15, sneaking up the AP Poll rankings. Tennessee has been dominant since the season started, but Oklahoma was the first test the Vols faced and they didn’t blink.
No. 6 Ole Miss
Ole Miss has been dominating each week, holding each opposing team to less than two touchdowns per game while scoring 50 points. After Tennessee’s win over Oklahoma, the Rebels dropped to No. 6 and will face their first test this Saturday against Kentucky.
No. 11 Missouri
Missouri dropped four places down the AP Poll after barely avoiding losing to unranked Vanderbilt by three points. The 30-27 win pushed the Tigers out of the top 10. The team will have a week to recover before facing Texas A&M next week.
No. 14 LSU
After week four, the Tigers moved up two spots with a 34-17 win against UCLA. After an opening loss to USC, LSU has been sitting at the bottom of the AP Poll despite winning the next several games. The Tigers face South Alabama this Saturday.
No. 21 Oklahoma
Oklahoma plummeted six places after a beat down from Tennessee. After struggling against Houston during week two, Oklahoma has remained in the bottom half of the AP Poll. After a brutal SEC opening game, the Sooners face unranked Auburn this Saturday.
