Dust and melody filled Zilker Park as Austin City Limits hosted another year of highly-anticipated performances. Eager fans in pop-themed clothes with local vendor eats in hand remained a constant throughout the festival. To honor the artists who performed over the past two weekends, The Daily Texan compiled a list of some of the most memorable sets.
Leon Bridges
Leon Bridges gave a soulful performance on Friday night as the “Texas Sun” set. Despite some of Bridges’ slower songs, his dancing throughout the performance and unique style made the set much more entertaining. Couples sweetly swayed as Bridges sang his hit “Beyond” near the show’s close. He performed on the American Express stage ahead of Chris Stapleton and special guest Willie Nelson.
blink-182
blink-182 didn’t miss a beat before their surprisingly wide-ranging audience of kids and middle-aged punk rockers alike on Friday. Their impressive musicality, the set’s well-oiled production and the perfectly timed banter made the show all the more enjoyable. The set included a mindful blend of old and new hits, giving the band room to show off their appreciation for the 32 years since they’ve had together.
Jungle
The British band performed on the Miller Lite stage Saturday evening as fans swayed to “Back On 74.” In a packed crowd, many still managed to dance their heart out and show love for this dance/electronic group. Their orange backdrop matched perfectly with the setting sun, as the weather cooled down and the audience began to lose themselves in the music. Jungle performed hits from various albums, making for an energetic and nostalgic performance.
Dua Lipa
A high-production set coupled with captivating dances made for an enjoyable concert. The first half of Dua Lipa’s performance took fans by surprise as she lit up the sky with fireworks while performing “Levitating.” Mothers and daughters, couples and best friends screamed along to the headliner’s popular hits and grinned ear to ear as she repped her Longhorn merch. Lipa ended the night with an encore and left fans in a blissful state.
Daniel Seavey
Daniel Seavey charmed the crowd, showing off his multi-instrumentalist side as he played the drums, guitar, piano and electric cello. His contagious smile and energized dancing distracted the audience from the peak 1 p.m. Austin heat. Seavey sang his popular song “Gateway Drug,” causing a crowd frenzy as he hit the highest note. Seavey proved a seasoned performer through his crowd interactions, leaving fans buzzing as he left the stage.
Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan lived up to the viral standard of her music festival performances. After a busy few months of touring and becoming one of the most stand-out artists, Roan told her audience that night’s performance was her last of the year. While her performance and vocals were strong, her strengths also lie in her passionate crowd, all of whom spent the show screaming, dancing and craning their necks for a closer look at the star.
