The SEC has seen a hectic few weeks with powerhouse teams experiencing unexpected grudge matches, crazy upsets and major changes in the SEC rankings.
No. 1 Texas (6–0)
Texas, one of the newest SEC members, is the only SEC team that maintains an undefeated record. While other heavyweights in the conference have struggled throughout the season, the Longhorns have held steady. Now with junior quarterback Quinn Ewers back, Texas looks to continue its dominance as they prepare to face No. 5 Georgia this Saturday.
No. 5 Georgia (5–1)
SEC fans have seen Georgia struggling in its last few games this season. After losing to Alabama three weeks ago in an SEC classic, Georgia delivered a definitive defeat of Auburn but only eked out a win against Mississippi State in a shootout. Now the underdogs enter Austin facing a stacked Texas team this Saturday.
No. 7 Alabama (5–1)
After defeating Georgia just three weeks ago, Alabama was the team to beat in the SEC. It wasn’t until the next week that Alabama’s seasonal outlook completely changed with an all-time upset against Vanderbilt. Alabama has three ranked opponents in the coming weeks, and with its first coming against Tennessee, the Tide face a gauntlet that head coach Kalen DeBoer will seek to conquer.
No. 8 LSU (5–1)
Another one-loss team in the SEC, LSU has been on an upward trend since losing its season opener to USC on Sept. 1. The team’s most impressive win this season came against Ole Miss, when it defeated the team by three and prompted a five-spot bump and LSU’s first appearance in the top ten this season.
No. 11 Tennessee (5–1)
After an unexpected loss to Arkansas a few weeks ago, the Volunteers were looking for an easy bounce-back win against Florida, but found themselves in an unpleasant situation, needing overtime to beat the Gators. Though Tennessee came out with the win, the team’s ability to win big games is starting to come into question.
No. 14 Texas A&M (5–1)
Another Texas SEC team on this list, A&M has also been on an upward trend this season. With one of the easier remaining schedules, it will be interesting to see if the team can win out and enter its final game of the year against No. 1 Texas with only one loss.
No. 18 Ole Miss (5–2)
Ole Miss has been on a major slide the past couple of weeks. Most recently the Rebels have dropped nine spots in the AP Top 25 after losing to LSU. With only one ranked opponent left on its schedule, time is running out for Ole Miss to salvage its season.
No. 19 Missouri (5–1)
Missouri’s slide has been as significant as Ole Miss’. The 5–1 Tigers are most recently coming off a blowout loss to Texas A&M and have only Alabama left on its schedule for ranked teams. With the season quickly progressing, Missouri needs to win out to possibly save its season.
