Texas opened its five-match run at home with a sweep against Arkansas, putting up a .340 hitting percentage while holding Arkansas to .181.
With dominant sets of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-22, Texas kept the lead throughout most of the game’s duration while pulling together 48 kills and five service aces.
Senior outside hitter Madisen Skinner led for 15 kills, while redshirt sophomore and middle blocker Marianna Singletary posted for a team-high four blocks.
The real standout of the night, though, was junior outside hitter Devin Kahahawai, who posted 13 kills and three blocks for the night, the second-highest in both elements. She also ranked second highest on the team with a .500 hitting percentage behind freshman middle blocker Ayden Ames with .556.
Kahahawai has been an impact player since her dominant game against Hawaii where she hit for 12 kills and put two blocks on the net. Before then, Kahahawai didn’t see nearly as much playing time. Now, she’s a steady player on rotation and a powerful presence on the court.
Even with a dominant game, the Longhorns still have areas to be cleaned during the rest of conference play. With 15 attack errors and 12 service errors, compared to Arkansas’ 13 and nine, respectively, Texas still has room to grow.
Texas now sits 6-0 in the conference as they prepare to play against Georgia at Gregory Gymnasium on Sunday at 1 p.m.
