The No. 2 Texas Longhorns men’s swim and dive came through with a big 97-89 win at home over the No. 4 Indiana Hoosiers. This was a highly anticipated meet, as both teams were ranked in the top five.
The event was an all-finals dual meet. It was also Texas head coach Bob Bowman’s first home meet at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
In the first session of the meet, senior David Johnston won the 1000m free with a time of 8:39.25 minutes.
The 100m free was a great race for the Longhorns, as senior captain Luke Hobson finished first with a time of 42.53 seconds while sophomore Camden Taylor finished second with a time of 42.70.
Sophomore Logan Walker took first in the 200m fly with a time of 1:41.70 minutes.
The Longhorns also claimed all four top places in the 400m IM. Sophomore Rex Maurer won with a time of 3:40.90, Johnston was next with a time of 3:43.81, freshman Landon D’Ariano came in third with a time of 3:44.86 and senior Ben Sampson finished fourth with a time of 3:46.81.
Lastly, Texas won the final event of the first session, the 400m medley relay. Sophomore Nate Germonprez, Hobson, junior Hubert Kós and sophomore Will Modglin finished strong with a time of 3:03.69.
In the diving events, freshman Jacob Jones finished third in the 1m dive with a score of 343.20 while sophomore Tanner Braunton finished third in the 3m dive with a score of 394.95.
The Longhorns started off the second session with a win in the 200m medley relay as Germonprez, Kós, Modglin and Taylor finished with a time of 1:23.58 minutes.
In the 200m free, Hobson and Maurer finished first and second with times of 1:31.86 and 1:32.13 minutes, respectively.
Texas remained hot as Kós and junior Holden Smith took the top two spots in the 100m fly with times of 44.93 and 46.10 seconds, respectively.
Germonprez continued the Longhorns success with a win in the 100m breast at 51.60.
Texas got another sweep in the 500m free as Maurer and Johnston finished with times of 4:11.20 and 4:12.25 minutes.
Kós also had success in the 200m IM with a time of 1:40.51 minutes and Modglin held a 44.82 seconds for his 100m backstroke..
Texas ended the night with a win in a mixed relay as sophomore Erin Gemmell, Hobson, graduate student Emma Sticklen and Taylor raced to a time of 2:59.35 minutes.
The Longhorns have had a strong start to the season and currently sit at 2–0. Up next, they will host the Texas Diving Invitational from Nov. 15-17 and the Texas Invitational from Nov. 20-22 which includes Stanford, USC and Wisconsin.
