Regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s big game, a Texas Longhorn will be crowned Super Bowl champion.
From 2019 to 2024 graduates, rookies to veterans, three former Longhorns are taking on the field in New Orleans. Texas alumni have a combined 33 Super Bowl rings, starting with defensive tackle John Elliott who won with the New York Jets in 1969, and most recently with defensive tackle Charles Omenihu and the Kansas City Chiefs last year.
Omenihu and the Chiefs will look for another ring in the Super Bowl LIX, this time with another Longhorn standing out on the roster. Here are the three players representing Texas on the biggest stage:
Charles Omenihu, Kansas City Chiefs
A fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Omenihu is the most recent Longhorn to win a Super Bowl ring.
Playing for Texas from 2015 to 2018, he accumulated 115 tackles and 16.5 sacks, earning the title of Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2018. Following his senior season, Omenihu was drafted by the Houston Texans as the 161st overall pick and stayed in the Lone Star State for three seasons.
In 2021, the Texans traded Omenihu for a 2023 sixth-round pick with the San Francisco 49ers. But his time in the Bay Area didn’t last – and it might have been for the best.
The 49ers traded Omenihu to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023, where he signed a two-year contract. The defensive end tore his ACL during the Chiefs’ AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens, but his team went on to defeat his old teammates in San Francisco, giving him his first Super Bowl ring. Omenihu was taken out of the team’s injury list on Nov. 28, 2024.
Xavier Worthy, Kansas City Chiefs
NFL rookie Xavier Worthy has had a bigger role than expected in his first year.
Worthy helped lead Texas to a Big 12 Championship in the team’s last season in the conference, earning a spot in the All-Big 12 First Team. After a record-breaking junior season, Worthy announced he would forgo his senior year to declare for the draft. With all the momentum in his favor, he was a first-round pick by the Chiefs and 28th overall.
The wide receiver’s NFL career started on top. Worthy scored two touchdowns in his opening game against the Baltimore Ravens and has been a key piece to the Chiefs roster after its receiver room went through several injuries.
Worthy, who broke the NFL Combine record in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.21, could even be a starter in quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ mission to win a third consecutive Super Bowl win.
Moro Ojomo, Philadelphia Eagles
The sole Longhorn on the other side of the field, defensive tackle Moro Ojomo was a seventh-round pick by the Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Ojomo was only 16 when he started his collegiate career and redshirted his true freshman season while appearing in three late-season games, including the conference championship against Oklahoma. The defensive tackle became a starter in his second year in the program. Ojomo played at Texas for five years and, despite having an extra year of eligibility, declared for the 2023 draft.
Since joining the Eagles, Ojomo has played in 25 games, recording 23 tackles, according to ESPN. Ojomo signed his rookie contract on May 4, 2023, just months after the Eagles lost that year’s Super Bowl to the Chiefs.
In his first Super Bowl appearance, Ojomo aims to secure the Eagles’ second-ever Super Bowl win.
