Top-ranked Texas softball has been flying in the 2025 season, earning an overall record of 38–3 and a Southeastern Conference record of 10–2. With under a month left in the season, the Longhorns sit at the top of the SEC rankings, but head coach Mike White and his squad will face a tough stretch in the final lap of the season.
Texas will host No. 7/5 Tennessee and No. 5/6 LSU in subsequent weeks, followed by a week-long trip to Oklahoma. The Longhorns will make a one-off stop in Stillwater to take on former Big 12 foe No. 17/18 Oklahoma State before heading to Norman for the Red River Rivalry series against No. 2/2 Oklahoma. The season will conclude in early May, hosting the Kentucky Wildcats.
Here’s a bit of insight into the matchups capping off Texas’ regular season:
No. 7/5 Tennessee, April 11-13
The Lady Volunteers roll into Austin this week with a record of 32–8. The back-to-back SEC regular season champions are holding serious momentum after series wins against Oklahoma and No. 17 Mississippi State. Both teams possess pitching prowess, with sophomore Teagan Kavan representing the Longhorns and junior Karlyn Pickens for the Lady Volunteers. Kavan enters the series with a 17–2 record and 1.51 ERA, and Pickens, the reigning SEC Pitcher of the Year, enters the weekend’s series with a 15–4 record and a .94 ERA.
Both Longhorn and Volunteer hitters will have challenging matchups in the circle as Tennessee’s pitching rotation sits at a combined 1.68 ERA, and Texas’ pitchers sit at a combined 1.98 ERA.
No. 5/6 LSU, April 17-19
LSU’s pitching rotation features three pitchers with an ERA under two, amassing a 34–5 record on the season. The Tigers also feature three players who have started in all 39 games with a batting average above .400, led by redshirt freshman Tori Edwards, who has produced a .434 batting average with 14 home runs and 56 RBIs. Edwards’ 56 RBIs have her sitting eighth in the nation for the statistic. The Longhorn’s batting lineup and pitching rotation will need to stay hot against the Tigers.
No. 17/18 Oklahoma State, April 23
Last season as conference opponents, Texas dropped the series to Oklahoma State 2–1 in Stillwater. Now, Texas pays another visit to Oklahoma State for a midweek matchup. The Cowgirls are led by sophomore standouts, infielder Rosie Davis, who leads the team in RBIs with 36, and outfielder Tia Warsop, who leads the team in batting average with .400.
No. 2 Oklahoma, April 25-27
Oklahoma sits with a 34–3 and is second in the SEC standings behind Texas. The Sooners have been great defending Love’s Field, holding a home record of 16–2, while the Longhorns have been steady away from home with a 12–2 away record.
The Sooners ranked third in the country with 72 home runs in 37 games, featuring three players with double-digit home runs. Oklahoma batters, who average about two home runs a game, will be up against the Texas pitchers, who give up less than one home run a game.
