While NCAA basketball’s offseason surges on, three Texas women’s basketball players will battle for the opportunity to further establish themselves outside of their collegiate careers next week.
Junior Madison Booker has been selected for the USA Basketball Women’s AmeriCup Team Trials, while sophomore Jordan Lee and incoming freshman Aaliyah Crump have been selected to take part in USA Basketball’s U19 National Team Trials.
“On behalf of the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Committee, I am proud to announce a talented group of 21 athletes who will compete for their place on the 2025 USA Women’s AmeriCup Team,” Cori Close, USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee chair, said.
All three of the players are set to participate next week in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The U19 National Team Trials and AmeriCup team trials start on June 17.
Each player has experience at the national level, but Booker has the most decorated career for Team USA. The Mississippi native has earned three gold medals throughout her involvement with the national team.
During Booker’s sophomore year alone, the small forward received the title of SEC Player of the Year, earned a First Team All-American nod from the Associated Press and finished the year with her second Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award.
However, Booker certainly won’t be the only player at trials with an impressive resume and national experience.
“About half of these young women have already claimed a gold medal with USA Basketball, so they bring great international experience with them,” Close said. “They are sure to be fierce competitors at trials. We look forward to choosing the group that will best represent the U.S. at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.”
As for Lee and Crump, 25 other athletes are set to compete against them at trials. Since Crump is just now approaching her first year at Texas, this could be a solid chance for Lee and her to build on-court chemistry with one another before they wear burnt orange together.
If the pair makes the team, they will travel to Brno, Czech Republic, for the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup from July 12-20.
If Booker succeeds at trials, her team will make the trip to Santiago, Chile, for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup from June 28 to July 6.
Summer vacation might not be in the cards for the trio of Longhorns, but these upcoming experiences could be instrumental as they prepare for their upcoming season at Texas.
