Texas Athletics entered a partnership with Humann Monday morning, naming the Austin-based company the Official Cardiovascular Supplement of Texas Athletics.
Humann’s logo will appear on Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium’s field beginning in August, alongside the Longhorn logo across all athletic venues.
Founded in 2009 from a University of Texas Health Science Center research program, Humann has worked with the program’s nutrition department and provided supplements for UT athletes for more than a decade.
“Research was done on this campus. The DNA was done on this campus, (Humann) found the cheat code to improve health,” said Chris Del Conte, vice president and Lois and Richard Folger athletics director at Texas. “Isn’t that the greatest gift you get to society? And it was done on campus. Our students have been using it every single day.”
The company traces its origins to Nobel Laureate Dr. Ferid Murad, who led a research discovery program at Texas. His research, alongside other UT scientists, led to Humann’s founding.
Today, the company is led by CEO and co-founder Joel Kocher, with Texas Professor Emeritus John Ivy serving as lead scientist and president of the Science Advisory Board.
Humann’s products will aid the athletes in endurance, recovery and cardiovascular health, according to the news release.
“Through Texas Athletics’ performance nutrition program, we’ve helped power more than 20 national titles over the last decade, proving that cardiovascular performance is a winning edge at the systems level,” Kocher said. “This isn’t just a sponsorship; it’s proof of what happens when world-class science and world-class athletics work together to push human potential further.”
The sponsorship, managed by Longhorn Sports Properties, is set to start this month and will include an in-venue release for fans.
