Jo’s Coffee, an Austin-based coffee shop, opened a new location in West Campus on Friday.
The new shop is located within the Union on 24th apartment building, features indoor and outdoor seating and a walk-up window for quick orders, according to a news release. The new location marks Jo’s ninth overall and its first in West Campus.
“We’ve always felt that the University of Texas is such an essential part of what makes Austin, Austin — as is Jo’s Coffee,” wrote Erin Lindsey, vice president of brand and community for Bunkhouse Hotels, in an email. “Opening in West Campus has been a dream for a long time. It felt like the perfect opportunity to offer students and locals a familiar Austin gathering spot.”
The new location features the Longhorn Latte, a maple, cinnamon and peach latte created as a nod to the University and its students, Lindsey said.
“Each Jo’s reflects the neighborhood it’s in, and West Campus is another vibrant chapter in that story,” Lindsey said.
Psychology senior Sarah Nadeem said she and her friend had been tracking the launch of the new location after seeing an Instagram post announcement in September.
“We were stalking their Instagram ever since, trying to figure out when it would open,” Nadeem said.
Shriya Venkataraman, a statistics and data science junior, said the shop’s branding stands out to her — for example, the “I love you so much” mural, a popular Austin landmark, on the South Congress Avenue location.
“It’s one of the most popular names in Austin for coffee,” Venkatarman said. “It’s nice that we have an option right near campus.”
The West Campus location was designed to reflect the pace and energy of student life while maintaining the warmth and familiarity Jo’s is known for, Lindsey said.
“It’s a lot more colorful than I thought it would be, which I like a lot,” government sophomore Avery Rejkowski said. “It’s very inviting, and I like that there’s a lot of space to work.”
