Amid the rolling elevation changes and demanding, undulating greens of The University of Texas Golf Club, the No. 7 Longhorns navigated a layout that tested the team’s precision through every tiered fairway and guarded pin position of the 54-hole Betsy Rawls Invitational. While the scoring conditions remained firm on the par-72 track, junior Farah O’Keefe managed the course with surgical efficiency, carding a final-round 2-under 70 on Tuesday to secure her third individual title of the year and guide Texas to a commanding team victory.
“Farah O’Keefe is trending player of the year,” Texas head coach Laura Ianello said, noting the junior’s rapid ascent. “From the person she was last year to even this fall, to the woman she is now, she is comfortable. She is comfortable under pressure.”
The 1-under 215 total from O’Keefe anchored a 21-stroke rout over second-place Arkansas, marking the fifth title for the Texas women’s golf program in the last six iterations of the event and their second consecutive team trophy this season. The win carried a distinct local flavor, as O’Keefe, the only Austinite in the 90-player field, utilized her lifelong familiarity with Hill Country breaks to finish as the tournament’s sole sub-par performer.
Navigating the limestone outcroppings and dramatic elevation shifts typical of the Central Texas terrain, she proved adept at reading the subtle “mountain breaks” that often baffle visiting players.
“You can see that she believes that she is one of the best players in the world,” Ianello said, highlighting O’Keefe’s composure. “She is becoming elite.”
For O’Keefe, the victory was a masterclass in course management, defined by aggressive approach shots and a hot putter as she carded five birdies to distance herself from the field. The performance marked her eighth consecutive top-10 finish this season, a streak that has solidified her status as a frontrunner on a national circuit and a cornerstone of the Longhorns’ postseason ambitions.
While the Austinite took the top spot, senior Cindy Hsu provided the day’s most significant charge by hunting flags and rolling in high-pressure putts. Hsu vaulted into solo second place with a 3-under 69, highlighted by a clinical stretch of four consecutive birdies on holes three through six. She finished the tournament at 1-over 217, totaling 11 birdies over the three rounds of play.
Junior Lauren Kim also factored heavily into the team’s success, battling through the final round to finish in a tie for seventh place. Her 7-over 223 total marked the 14th career top-10 finish for the veteran standout, who found a steady rhythm on the back nine to stay within striking distance of the leaders.
The Longhorns’ depth was further bolstered by senior Angela Heo, who maintained her position in the top 15 throughout the week by minimizing mistakes and finishing 13th at 9-over 225, with a closing birdie on the par-4 18th.
Junior Selina Liao provided a crucial spark for the lineup Tuesday, mounting a final-round comeback with an even-par 72. Her ability to scramble for par allowed her to climb the leaderboard and finish tied for 28th overall.
Several other Longhorns competed as individuals, led by junior Vivian Lu, who finished tied for 28th, while sophomore Alisa Inprasit finished 49th, and junior Emma Von Hoffmann finished tied for 73rd.
Texas will look to maintain its momentum as the team travels to Fort Worth for the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational.
“This is our second team win in a row and second straight week we have had the individual win as well,” Ianello said. “We are trending up, which is what we want to do this time of the year.”
