Texas fails to complete on fourth down. Ohio State wins the season opener. The horns start their season 0-1.
Starting the season out with a bang, No. 1 Texas faces a true road test against the reigning national champions, No. 3 Ohio State. While the two teams collectively lost 32 players to current NFL rosters after last season and essentially have completely new teams, the Longhorns will look to get revenge against the Buckeyes, who ended their season in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
The Longhorns have been the talk of the preseason, ranked No. 1 for the first time in program history, so now they will get the chance to prove if they were worthy of it. As third-year quarterback Arch Manning takes his first start as QB1, a packed crowd at the Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio, will be watching.
