That’s game — running back CJ Baxter Jr. takes the last carry and players run onto the field as the scoreboard flashes 35-10 for the Georgia Bulldogs.
In their third rematch since Texas joined the Southeastern Conference, the No. 10 Longhorns and No. 5 Bulldogs meet in Athens, Georgia for a high stakes, season-defining game that could set Texas on course for a playoff berth — or make the road ahead even rockier than it already looks.
After a three-win streak, beating Mississippi State, Kentucky and Vanderbilt, Texas has slowly climbed its way back up in rank after a disappointing conference-opener against Florida. The Longhorns are desperate to prove themselves and the campaign for an SEC Championship spot could start “Between the Hedges” tonight if Texas continues to play like a complete team. Led by quarterback Arch Manning, the Longhorns are fully healthy for the first time all season and fresh after coming off a bye week.
Georgia, however, is equally hungry for a win after suffering their first season loss to then-No. 17 Alabama two weeks into SEC play. In the five games since, the Bulldogs have put up dominant performances with more than 20 points per game. Georgia is currently 37-2 when playing at home, since November 2020.
With a high-powered offense led by quarterback Gunner Stockton, Texas’ defense, which so far has been dominant, will have its hands full. Georgia’s, however, has consistently let opponents into the endzone — so if Manning and Co. can make their way down the field, the Longhorns have a fighting chance.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:49 p.m. CT. Follow this thread for live updates!
