South By Southwest has become notorious for being a week-long event full of free food, drinks and some of the best bands the music industry has to offer. However, for those unfortunately under 21, the festivities may not all be so inviting. Here are some great unofficial SXSW events happening that are not only free, but open to all ages.

TUESDAY, MARCH 13
WHAT: Topshelf Records SXSW Showcase
WHEN: March 13, 5 p.m.-2 a.m.
WHERE: Gypsy Lounge, 1504 E. Sixth St.
Topshelf Records will be showcasing 15 of their artists on two stages — one inside and one outside — at Gypsy Lounge. The inside stage will feature powerpop titans Hellogoodbye and indie rock artist Mansions. However, be ready to see hardcore dancing outside as scream metal bands Former Thieves and Code Orange Kids take the stage. Freebies given at the show include screen-printed posters, pickles and seven-inch vinyls courtesy of Gotta Groove Records.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14
WHAT: KVRXplosion
WHEN: March 14, 12:45 p.m.-2 a.m.
WHERE: Spiderhouse Cafe, 2906 Fruth St.
Put on your dancing shoes and head out to Spiderhouse Cafe where local radio station KVRX will host its all-day event, KVRXplosion. The show will feature grooves from DIY pop artist Dent May along with Silverlake natives El Ten Eleven, electro hip-hop duo Javalin and many others. Special guests will also be announced at the event, so make sure to keep an eye out.

THURSDAY, MARCH 15
WHAT: The Artery Foundation SXSW Showdown
WHEN: March 15, noon-6 p.m.
WHERE: 611 E. Seventh St.
Hardcore bands Asking Alexandria, A Skylight Drive and Chelsea Grin will headline a day show hosted by the Artery Foundation, an artist management company. Fans of the hardcore and metal genres will be happy to know the lineup will be made exclusively of bands that will quench their thirst for all things hard and loud.

FRIDAY, MARCH 16
WHAT: Austin Town Hall and Sonora Records Second Street Showdown
WHEN: March 16, noon-midnight
WHERE: 1500 E. Second St.
Austin Town Hall and Sonora Records will host the Second Street Showdown featuring local rock ‘n’ roll favorites Literature and Houston-based indie rock trio Young Girls. This show will be perfect for those attending with friends over 21 — free drinks will be provided by Treaty Oak Distillery and Adelbert’s Brewery. The show will be an all-day event and will also showcase Choir of Young Believers and Seapony.

SATURDAY, MARCH 17
WHAT: Check Out Yo Ponytail Mad Decent Fool’s Gold Super Party
WHEN: March 17, noon-2 a.m.
WHERE: Emo’s East and Beauty Ballroom, 2015 E. Riverside Dr.
Featuring big-time headliners such as electronic artist Diplo, hard partying expert Andrew W.K. and lo-fi rock band Wavves, the all-day Super Party will have something for everyone. The event will be a bit displaced located at the newer and larger Emo’s East venue instead of at a downtown location. However, it will definitely be worth trekking to. Other performing artists will include G-Side, Trash Talk and Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team.

MULTIPLE DAYS
WHAT: Urban Outfitters Live in Austin
WHERE: 2406 Guadalupe St.
WHEN: March 14-17, 12:45-6:30 p.m.
Urban Outfitters will host bands from Wednesday to Saturday at their location on the Drag. Grimes, Best Coast, Blondes, Light Asylum and New Build are a few of the bands performing throughout the week during the daytime. Last year, Urban Outfitters gave freebies including collapsible water cups, T-shirts and bags to patrons visiting the store during SXSW, so be on the lookout if you’re looking to score some free swag.
