Fashion retailer H&M will be opening their first Austin store this fall at The Domain shopping center.
H&M is known for their affordable, high quality merchandise for all ages and currently has locations around the world, with 2,600 stores in 44 markets. The retailer makes all of its own merchandise and does not sell online in the U.S. H&M spokeswoman Nicole Christie said the store has seen a tremendous response and success to their recent store openings in Dallas and Houston. She said as a result, H&M feels there is a lot of potential in the Austin market. Christie said the store will open this fall, although the exact date is still not set in stone.
“In Austin, we really considered the college students and what the focus is when class is in session,” she said. “What you guys need, what you’re looking for on the weekend and so forth, and we want to personally reach out to the students and welcome you to our brand in a special way.”
Since The Domain is fairly new, opening in 2007, Christie said she thinks it is an ideal location for an H&M store. She said The Domain is a good mix of retail, nightlife and residential growth, making it a good fit for the H&M brand. There are currently six H&M locations in Texas, all of which are found in the Houston and Dallas areas.
Christie said she thinks the store will add to the exciting musical, educational and unique culture of Austin, all of which H&M will keep in mind while planning their opening events. She declined to comment on what those events will specifically be, as they are still in the planning stages.
The Domain spokeswoman Lauren Krumlauf said The Domain is excited for H&M’s debut.
“We know that H&M will be a significant complement to our retail mix because of the excitement and traffic they deliver,” Krumlauf said. “We constantly strive to tailor our tenant mix to our diverse market and know H&M will be a welcomed addition.”
