A cold front blew into Austin on Monday and will leave lows approaching freezing until Thursday.

In Austin the high temperatures will be in the 60s and lows in the 30s and 40s through Thursday, with wind speeds between five and 11 mph.

The National Weather Service issued the first freeze warning of the season Monday afternoon for much of South Central Texas and the Hill Country. The warning was set to expire Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Clear skies and light winds contributed to rapidly falling temperatures Monday night and Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to dip as low as 28 degrees in the coldest areas, and the freeze is expected to last between two and six hours.

The warning advises people to cover up their plants before any potential freeze to prevent damage.

Temperatures will warm up Friday with a high near 72 degrees and low near 43 degrees. Highs Saturday and Sunday will remain in the 70s with lows in the 40s and 50s, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday will also bring a 20 percent chance of rain.
