Students with late-night cravings often find themselves with growling stomachs, desperate for options. Before getting too hangry, here are five local eateries where they can grab a midnight snack.

Big Bite

  • Open until 4 a.m.
  • 415 W 24th St, Austin, TX 78705

All of the junk food your parents told you to stay away from is piled into Big Bite’s “phat” sandwiches. With toppings including chicken strips, mozzarella sticks and french fries, Big Bite is the perfect place to tackle the meanest case of the munchies. The West Campus eatery also offers a delivery service for those who don’t want to ditch the comfort of their rooms for a late-night walk through campus streets.

Kerbey Lane

  • Open 24 hours
  • 2606 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78705

If you’re looking to fill your empty stomach before a crazy West Campus party or stumbling back to your dorm after a long night, Kerbey Lane’s sign will seem like a god-send. A UT staple, the restaurant has consistently been the recipient of numerous awards since opening on the Drag 15 years ago. The restaurant’s cinnamon roll pancakes prove there’s no wrong time to have breakfast, while the famous Kerbey Queso is the stuff of legends.

Gourdough’s

  • Open until: 12 a.m. Sunday-Wednesday
  • 3 a.m. Thursday-Saturday
  • 209 W 5th St, Suite B, Austin, TX 78701

After a late-night Sixth Street crawl, you and your friends might be looking for some solid food. On your way back to campus, hit up Gourdough’s — voted one of the country’s best donut shops by The Huffington Post. The restaurant is well known for its dessert donuts topped off with ingredients such as yellow cake batter, bacon and bread pudding. If you don’t have a sweet tooth, Gourdough’s also offers donut burgers, sandwiches and entrees such as the “Mother Clucker” — hand-battered fried chicken breasts piled on top of a fresh donut.

P. Terry’s

  • Open until: 1 a.m. Sunday-Thursday
  • 3 a.m. Friday-Saturday
  • 3303 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78705

Austin’s famous burger joint caters to students’ midnight cravings and is just a short trip away. You can accompany your burger with a milkshake, which comes in flavors such as Root Beer and caramel. With all-natural patties and highly-rated veggie burgers, the stand provides people with a different side to most of the fast food they’re familiar with.

Trudy’s Texas Star

  • Open until: 2 a.m.
  • 409 W 30th St, Austin, TX 78705

Just a few blocks away from campus, Trudy’s is for anyone looking to satisfy their Tex-Mex craving. For more than 30 years, UT students have been frequenting the restaurant and ordering up some of Austin’s most highly-rated margaritas. Trudy’s also offers Southern staples and a variety of Tex-Mex dishes such as loaded jalapeños, breakfast tacos and chorizo-stuffed chicken.
