President Gregory Fenves announced Elizabeth Danze, current associate dean for graduate programs, will serve as the interim dean of the School of Architecture beginning July 1.
"I am grateful for her willingness to lead the school during this time of transition for the school,” Fenves said in a statement. "Her interest in the sociological and psychological aspects of architecture has guided a career that includes distinguished accomplishments in academia and professional contributions.”
Fenves’s announcement comes after Frederick Steiner, the current architecture dean, said he would leave the university on July 1 to become the dean of architecture at his alma mater, University of Pennsylvania. Steiner cited campus carry as one of the reasons he chose to leave the university.
“I didn’t feel [campus carry] was a law I agreed with and could implement,” Steiner said in an interview earlier this month with The Daily Texan. “In the wrong hands, [guns are] quite clearly dangerous.”
Fenves said the search for a permanent dean will take place in the coming weeks.
