This year has been filled with debate surrounding racism and police brutality, with the recent shootings of unarmed black men Keith Scott of Charlotte, N.C. and Terence Crutcher of Tulsa, Okla. igniting this nationwide flashpoint once more. On Saturday, the Race & Law Enforcement panel at the Texas Tribune Festival tackles issues that have faced Americans of color and community policing of minority neighborhoods in the wake of heightened racial tensions. Panelists include Austin Police Department Chief Art Acevedo, APD’s first Latino chief, in addition to public policy researchers and state officials from diverse backgrounds.
