Update (6:02 p.m.): Chicago Bears running backs coach Stan Drayton is the final hire for Tom Herman's staff. Texas announced Tuesday evening Drayton is joining the team as Herman's associate head coach and run game coordinator. The Longhorns announced the hiring of Tim Beck as offensive coordinator earlier on Tuesday.

Drayton worked with Herman at Ohio State from 2012-2014 where they helped the Buckeyes win a national championship. Drayton spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Bears.

"Stan is a great final piece to a coaching staff I'm really excited about," Herman said in a statement. "He's a guy I was fortunate enough to coach with at Ohio State, and we won a National Championship together there. He also was part of a National Championship staff at Florida and has a resume filled with successes at the college and NFL levels."

Drayton worked with running back Ezekiel Elliot at Ohio State. Elliot was the No. 4 pick in last year's NFL Draft and led the league in rushing this season with the Dallas Cowboys. Chicago Bears running back Jordan Howard broke the Bears rookie rushing record this season under Drayton. He will inherit a group of running backs at Texas that lost D'Onta Foreman, but features sophomore Chris Warren.

"Anytime you have a chance to play or coach at a place like Texas, you have to jump on board," Drayton said in a statement. "From the time I started playing and coaching I've always known and been impressed by the pride and tradition of Longhorn football. It's always one of the premier jobs in the country and just an unbelievable opportunity. I'm looking forward to heading to Austin, embracing that great culture that UT has and getting to work."

Original post: Ohio State offensive coordinator Tim Beck is leaving the Buckeye State and heading south to join head coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns in the same position, the team confirmed Tuesday afternoon. Beck will also coach the quarterbacks.

"I'm so excited to have Tim joining our staff and running our offense," Herman said in a statement. "He's a guy I've known and respected for a long time.”

Beck, an Ohio native, has roots in the Lone Star State. He coached at the high school level in the Dallas – Fort Worth metroplex before becoming an assistant at Kansas and Nebraska.

"I'm extremely excited to be coming back to the state of Texas and working with a program that I've always hoped and dreamed I could one day be a part of," Beck said in a statement.

He replaced Herman at Ohio State when  he moved on to become Houston’s head coach in 2015. Herman led the Ohio State offense to a national championship in the 2014 season.

But despite leading Ohio State to a pair of 11-win seasons, Beck hasn’t had the same fortunes calling the shots as Herman did. Beck’s offense was shut out in the Buckeyes’ 31-0 loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoffs semifinal matchup on Dec. 31.

Texas presents Beck a new opportunity and a talented roster. The Longhorns lost running back D’Onta Foreman, but sophomore quarterback Shane Buechele returns after a productive freshman season. Beck will also get to work with incoming freshman quarterback Sam Ehlinger.

“There is no place like Texas,” Beck said in a statement. “And I've always considered The University of Texas as the pinnacle of that, and what a great opportunity to be in this position while working with a great head coach in Tom Herman.”
