Update (2:22 p.m.): Neither the suspect or targets were UT students or employees, according to UTPD. The shooting occurred near a construction site close to campus.
Original post: The UT Police Department received reports that shots were fired near campus early Thursday morning.
At 10:20 a.m., UTPD received a delayed report of shots fired from a vehicle in the vicinity of Dean Keaton and San Jacinto streets. A University-wide text message and email alert was sent to the UT community shortly after UTPD received the report.
After the incident the vehicle left the area. The preliminary investigation revealed that the intended target was known by the suspect. There is no continuing threat to the UT community or campus at this time, according to the University safety alert.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic male with short hair and sweatpants. His vehicle was described as a white sedan with a rear spoiler.
UTPD is working with APD to investigate the incident. Both departments said they have no further information on the incident.
The University asks the community to call 911 with any information regarding the incident.
