Woman stabbed near University United Methodist Church

Update (4:56 p.m.): Earlier this morning, UTPD sent out a tweet saying they had captured a suspect in last night’s stabbing incident. Following the capture, UTPD handed the suspect off to the Austin Police Department.

According to an Austin Police Department statement, APD has identified a person of interest in the case but has not yet arrested anyone. As the investigation has just begun, APD said they have no further information about the case at this time.

“We are aware that there have been reports that an arrest has been made in this case,” APD said. “Rather, APD has identified a person of interest. No arrest has been made.”


Original post: A 41-year-old woman was stabbed on the steps of the University United Methodist Church on Monday around 9 p.m. and sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to Austin Fire Department division chief Palmer Buck.

The suspect is still at large, and UT Police said the suspect is described to be a male in his 20’s or 30’s and 5’5” to 5’9” feet tall. UT Police said the suspect headed west after the stabbing.

UT Police sent out a safety alert to students 40 minutes after the stabbing occured.

The victim was not a UT student or affiliated with the University.
