All the chips will be on the line this weekend at Texas A&M’s Gilliam Indoor Stadium, the site of the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The Longhorn women will send four individuals and a 4×400-meter relay team to the Championships.
Day one will feature three Longhorns in two separate events. Junior Teahna Daniels enters the 60-meter dash as the highest-seeded Longhorn this year at No. 12. The Big 12 runner-up hopes to pull an upset and get into the top eight on Friday in order to compete in the final on Saturday. Daniels has proven before that she is capable of not only competing at a high level in this event but also winning it, as she did in 2016.
Also competing on day one are senior Pedrya Seymour and sophomore Rushelle Burton. Both women will run in the 60-meter hurdles. Friday’s race will be the preliminary race to Saturday’s final, which takes the top eight. Seymour and Burton are seeded 13th and 17th, respectively. The duo finished first and second at the Big 12 Championships.
Events such as the pole vault and the 4×400 relay don’t have a preliminary round, so day two will be the final. Senior Kally Long, who is seeded No. 14, is looking for her first pole vault championship.
In the final event of the weekend, the 4×400 relay team will look to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the weekend. The No. 16-seeded team needs to overcome a seven-second difference between it and No. 1 USC. The team of Seymour, senior Ariel Jones, junior Zola Golden and junior Mariam Abdul-Rashid finished eighth at the Big 12 Championships.
The Longhorns are mostly underdogs for the meet as none of the women are seeded higher than 12th.
