A UT student reported a sexual assault that took place around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the University of Texas Police Department. UTPD was called at 4:20 a.m. to Jester East Residence Hall after the report was made.
The UTPD Criminal Investigations Unit is actively investigating the assault, according to a campus-wide statement released Saturday morning.
“They knew one another, “ UTPD spokesperson Noelle Newton said. “It was a nonstranger sexual assault.”
UTPD urges students to engage in sexual activities only with affirmative consent from their partner. Student Emergency Services, located in the Student Services Building, provides supports to students who have been or know someone who has been a victim of a crime on or off campus.
This is a developing story.
