The No. 11 Longhorns will see No. 15 Texas Tech three times over the weekend in their fourth Big 12 series matchup of the season.

Texas has pulled out wins each of the last 10 times it has faced the Red Raiders, and holds an overall series record of 44–10.

Coming off a 10-0 mercy rule win on Wednesday night against Texas State, the Longhorns have built up much-needed confidence after going 1–2 in their series against Oklahoma State last weekend.

“Heading forward (is) a little more power in our bats,” Texas head coach Mike White said after Wednesday’s win over Texas State. “I know we had, like, a power outage up there in Oklahoma State, so hopefully that continues going forward.”

The Longhorns saw an improvement offensively against Texas State, and many players are eager to continue with the strides they’ve made.

Another offensive stand out for Texas has been second baseman Janae Jefferson. The sophomore leads the Big 12 Conference with 56 hits and is rated fourth in all of Division I in total hits.

At the beginning of the season, Jefferson said that confidence was a big key in her success at the plate.

“I think (confidence) has something to do with the coaching staff that’s been brought in,” Jefferson said after the Texas Classic. “They told us to be intense in everything that we do.”

Texas’ defensive unit has also seen improvement heading into this weekend’s play.

Pitcher Shea O’Leary has seemingly gotten her groove back after a solid stretch on the mound against the Bobcats. O’Leary currently ranks second ERA among Division I pitchers, and the freshman has allowed only six earned runs in her first 77 innings of collegiate play.

The Longhorns (32–8) will travel to Lubbock this weekend to face the Raiders (29–6). After a packed schedule in March where the Longhorns saw the field 25 times, a new school record, the team has 15 more games before the Big 12 Softball Championship is scheduled to begin.

As for this weekend, Texas will begin the series against Texas Tech on Friday at 6 p.m.
