No. 2 Texas Men’s Swimming and Diving defeats No. 14 Alabama, falls short against No. 13 Ohio State

In its first action back from the break, No. 2 Texas men’s swimming and diving took on No. 13 Ohio State and No. 14 Alabama in a two-day double dual meet. Texas triumphed over Alabama 220.50 – 132.50 but came up short against Ohio State, losing 189 – 164.

Texas started day one with a top-three sweep of the 1-meter dive. Freshman Nick Harris earned first with a score of 379.95 points, followed by juniors Brendan McCourt and Noah Duperre, who scored 363.15 and 349.60 points, respectively.

The second victory of the night came from senior Jake Foster in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.49. Graduate teammate Will Chan finished in third with 54.22


Senior Cole Crane added the third and final win of day one in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing at 1:46.49. 

Junior David Johnston competed in the 1000-yard freestyle, where he finished in second with 8.50.54, while fifth-year Daniel Krueger competed in the 50-yard freestyle, also taking second with a time of 20.08.

Junior Carson Foster also placed third in the 100-yard individual medley, touching the wall in a season-best 48.80.

Foster, Chan, Crane and Krueger competed in the 200-yard medley relay for the Longhorns, finishing third with a time of 1:27.15. 

Day one finished with senior Peter Larson, sophomore Luke Hobson, Foster and Krueger finishing second in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 2:53.88.

Day two picked back up with divers Harris, Duperre and McCourt, who competed in the 3-meter dive. Harris earned second with 395.95 points, Duperre placed third with 386.50 points and McCourt with 347.35 points to take fifth. 

Swimmers Jake Foster and Carson Foster earned the only two wins on the day, competing in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley, respectively. Jake Foster finished the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:56.08, and Carson Foster finished the 200 IM with a time of 1:45.03. Jake Foster took second in that same race with a time of 1:45.79. 

Carson Foster also added a runner-up finish in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:42.76.

The Foster brothers with Crane and Krueger raced together in the 400-yard medley relay, finishing at 3:10.16 for second-place.

Texas finished the meet placing third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:20.38.

Texas’ next meet is on Jan. 27-28, where they will host No. 5 NC State.
