The Daily Texan’s local playlist for SXSW’s music festival

Every year, the South by Southwest music festival showcases some of Austin’s most talented local musicians. With the festival quickly approaching, The Daily Texan curated a collection of songs by local artists performing at the festival. 

“Candy Apple Red” by Anabelle Chairlegs

This bright and feisty track, perfect for a swift walk through downtown Austin, features Chairlegs’ funky guitar riff. The song’s pulsating drums put pep in the slow steps to an early day of panels, showcases and film screenings.


“Hawks Don’t Share” by Carson McHone

McHone’s soft folksy vocals glide over the suave, breezy guitar instrumental as she sings about an imperfect love. The singer-songwriter’s thought-provoking lyrics, meditative drums and steady baseline combine in a perfect soundtrack to a busy afternoon. 

“Charlene” by Otis Wilkins

Wilkins’ reverb-filled vocals float over dreamy synths and rhythmic drums in this uplifting indie-pop track. This returning SXSW performer’s feel-good lyrics and vibrant piano chords create an immediate mood booster for listeners on an overwhelming day. 

“Strawberry Amnesia” by Moody Bank$

Distant piano keys echo softly in the background of a groovy baseline in this soul-filled, R&B-inspired track. The track’s soulful vocals and catchy songwriting make for a perfect tune for the evening drive back home after a long day at SXSW.  

“Café” by Como Las Movies, Shiela

Attendees can lose themselves in daydreams to this shimmery track. Whether walking home from a day full of festivities or relaxing inside after a busy day out, the indie-cumbia-pop band’s synth-heavy instrumentals and soft Spanish lyrics will surely send listeners into a trance. 

“Leave it All” by Andrea Magee

Magee’s velvety vocals echo over stripped-down piano chords as she pleads to an old lover in this emotion-filled ballad. The singer-songwriter’s heart-wrenching lyrics and powerful belt in the bridge send chills down the spines of its listeners. 

“Two Weeks” by Big Bill

Get excited for SXSW’s fun-filled lineup with this playful, energy-boosting track. Listeners can’t help but tap their feet to this song’s uptempo drums and sing along to its catchy chorus.

“Window Seat” by Caramelo Haze 

Drive with windows down to this relaxing track. The song’s funky synths, dreamy vocals and soft acoustic guitar can accompany a slow cruise around town. 

“Franny” by Redbud

“Franny” from the band’s latest EP blends soft, bouncy drums with airy, reverb-heavy vocals. The lead singer’s unique vocal texture and the song’s oscillating tempo keep listeners constantly interested and eager to hear more.    

“Rosebuds” by Lena Luca

This groovy track’s punchy drums and glimmering electric guitar boast a fresh radio-pop sound. The singer-songwriter’s catchy chorus and clever lyrics will certainly get its listeners humming as they get ready for a SXSW day party.
