Former Oral Roberts guard Max Abmas announced his commitment to Texas for the 2023-2024 season on Tuesday evening. In his last season at Oral Roberts, Abmas averaged 21.9 points on 43.6% shooting from the field and 37.3% from three.

Abmas spent four years with the Golden Eagles, leaving the program as the 10th highest scorer in program history with 1,819 points. He originally hails from Rockwall, Texas and played high school ball at Jesuit Dallas.

Abmas gained notoriety during the 2021 NCAA tournament, when he led No. 15-seeded Oral Roberts to the Sweet 16. The combo guard dropped 29 points against No. 2-seeded Ohio State and 26 points against No. 7-seeded Florida that year.

Abmas is Texas head coach Rodney Terry’s second pick up from the transfer portal this offseason. Former Virginia forward Kadin Shedrick announced his commitment to the Longhorns earlier this week.

Currently, Abmas and redshirt freshman Gavin Perryman are the only guards on Texas’ roster for next year. Sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter declared for the NBA draft, but he still has the option to return to Texas if he chooses to do so.
