Don’t sweat it: The Texan’s guide for Mooov-In

Mooov-In is a rite of passage for all Longhorns — a time to make new friends, explore your new home and get ready for a great year ahead. But before you start overpacking your bags or stressing out, the Texan prepared a guide for incoming freshmen to use to help make the most of Mooov-In.

Stay up-to-date with University Housing and Dining resources.

University Housing and Dining posted a comprehensive guide on their website, which includes everything you need to know about Mooov-In, from check-in procedures to what to bring and leave behind. UHD will also send emails periodically with important information about Mooov-In, so be sure to check your inbox regularly. You can also monitor your housing portal to coordinate your check-in time and location to avoid disruptions.

Housing advisers are another resource for encouraging incoming residents to ask questions, students can email [email protected] for additional assistance.

It’s OK to bring support! Just don’t overdo it.

“While family is absolutely welcome, we do know that managing multiple cars and trying to navigate campus with a large group of people may be a little difficult during such a busy time,” said Melissa Garland, associate director for occupancy management for UHD.

Garland recommends restricting your guests to no more than four people. Things can get chaotic with a lot of people in a small dormitory space and navigating the Forty Acres. Having fewer people helps things go more smoothly. From there, assign specific tasks to people helping you move for a smooth move-in process.

Use your dorm’s move-in guide.

Each dorm has its own move-in guide, including 2400 Nueces, which provides specific information about rooms, the check-in process and other important details. This guide is a valuable resource, so be sure to read it carefully before arriving.

Communicate with resident assistants

Resident assistants will check in with residents sometime throughout the moving-in process, so get to know them and introduce yourself. Communicate with your RA if you have any concerns or questions about on-campus living. There will also be a meeting that RAs host to inform residents of important first-week information, other need-to-know items and contact information specific to your living area.

Take advantage of Welcome Week

Longhorn Welcome is the University’s official welcome for all incoming undergraduate Longhorns. This campuswide initiative features events hosted by multiple campus partners from August 18–26, including signature events like Gone To Texas. Continue to monitor this website throughout the week and download the Longhorn Welcome app as events will continually be added to the schedule.
