If all the candy on Halloween doesn’t have you giddy and struggling to fall asleep, this week of games surely will. Saturday features plenty of match-ups that have major implications on the postseason depending on how they go.
No. 9 Oklahoma @ No. 22 Oklahoma State
Saturday, Nov. 4 @ 2:30 p.m. on ABC
A major rivalry is happening in Stillwater this weekend as the Sooners pay a visit to the Cowboys on Saturday. Oklahoma had a shaky showing against unranked UCF two weeks ago and lost against No. 22 Kansas last week. Another loss in Big 12 play could spell trouble, not only for their conference championship hopes but would practically destroy their hopes of playing for a national championship. Oklahoma has a record of 7-1, however, Oklahoma State is sitting at 6-2 after beating No. 22 Kansas earlier this season, making this an interesting game to watch.
No. 12 Missouri @ No. 2 Georgia
Saturday, Nov. 4 @ 2:30 p.m. on CBS
The Georgia Bulldogs haven’t budged from their number one ranking all season. This week will be the first time all season that Georgia will play against a ranked opponent. Their closest games were against South Carolina and Auburn, beating the Gamecocks by 10 and the Tigers by seven. The truth is that the Bulldogs will likely make another run at a national championship, but college football is one of the most unpredictable sports out there. Missouri only has one loss on the season, given by the hands of LSU a few weeks ago. If they are able to face this mountain of a challenge head on and take down Georgia, the college football landscape would change drastically.
No. 5 Washington @ No. 20 USC
Saturday, Nov. 4 @ 6:30 p.m. on ABC
Washington is part of a talent-filled Pac-12 conference. Half of the conference currently occupies a spot in the AP Top 25. The Huskies have been able to keep a perfect record intact, and starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. looks to be a Heisman front runner. USC has suffered two losses on the season, and for the time being, looks to be out of the College Football Playoff picture. However, they can spoil Washington’s chances at being a playoff team while also making their record look better. If Washington falls to USC on Saturday, that would leave only four teams with an undefeated record.
No. 23 Kansas State @ No. 7 Texas
Saturday, Nov. 4 @ 11 a.m. on FOX
The Texas Longhorns are now on thin ice when discussing their chances at playing for a national championship. Their best chance to be selected for the College Football Playoff is to win the rest of their games along with a conference championship. The Kansas State Wildcats are the reigning Big 12 champions, however, their offense lost a few key players on both sides of the ball. Nonetheless, they still boast a record of 6–2 and have outscored their last two opponents in a combined 82-3. The Longhorns sit at 7–1, losing to Oklahoma by only four points in the latest chapter of the Red River Showdown. Both have high offensive abilities, so this game will come down to which defense can come up with the most stops.
