Following a legendary four years at Texas, midfielder Lexi Missimo trades in her burnt orange and white jersey for the maroon and gold of Dallas Trinity FC.
Founded a little more than a year ago, Dallas Trinity FC is playing in its inaugural USL Super League season. The USL Super League is one of the highest levels of women’s professional soccer in the United States, alongside the National Women’s Soccer League. The club formally announced Missimo’s signing on Jan. 29 through a post on the team’s Instagram.
“Joining Dallas Trinity FC and the USL Super League is an incredible opportunity to be part of something special,” Missimo said. “As a player just starting my professional journey, I’m excited to continue to grow women’s soccer in a league that’s creating new paths for athletes like me while returning close to home and my family.”
For the Southlake native, signing with Dallas Trinity FC means she will be playing close to home again.
Before her collegiate career, Missimo played in Allen for Solar Soccer Club. Now, Missimo will play home games at the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium, located only 30 minutes away from her hometown. It marks a special moment for the Dallas team to sign a talent that developed in its backyard in its first season in the USL Super League.
“We are thrilled to bring Lexi home to play here in Dallas,” said Chris Petrucelli, the Dallas Trinity FC’s general manager. “We’re not just getting an exceptional midfielder — we’re getting a player who understands what it means to represent Dallas.”
Missimo leaves Texas with a laundry list of accolades. She is Texas’ all-time leader in points with 176, goals with 56 and assists with 64. Missimo is also a two-time coaches All-American, a three-time Big 12 Conference All-Tournament Team and one-time SEC All-Tournament Team.
As a senior, Missimo scored 12 goals paired with 15 assists and became the first American-born Division I women’s soccer student-athlete to join the 50-goal, 50-assist club since the 2012 season.
“She’s put her stamp on this program,” Texas head coach Angela Kelly said in a postgame interview this past season. “(She’s) just an exceptional talent, and we’re so incredibly fortunate she’s at the University of Texas.”
The young midfielder has a lot to look towards in her new environment. There is a lot of excitement within the Dallas Trinity FC coaching staff, who raved about Missimo’s abilities on the field and the impact she will be able to make early on.
“One of the things I identified (is) her technical proficiency under pressure is exceptional. She manipulates the ball so well,” said Pauline MacDonald, Dallas Trinity FC head coach. “She’s going to be a superstar for us. She just has a natural creativity and good knowledge and understanding (of the game).”
It won’t be a long wait to see Missimo in her new colors. Her debut is set for Saturday, Feb. 15, at 5:30 p.m., when Dallas Trinity FC takes on the Tamba Bay Sun FC at the Cotton Bowl.
