Deferred admissions decisions for many Early Action applications released a week earlier than applicants expected on Friday.
Many Early Action applicants originally reported on social media that they had been deferred on the original decision date of Jan. 15. Applicants were notified by the Office of Admissions they would receive decisions on Feb. 15, the regular decision date. However, these applicants later received emails stating many of them would get their decision on Friday evening.
“I was actually really happy,” said Sarayu Bongale, who was deferred and then accepted into the public health major. “I was expecting to get it earlier on Jan. 15 (but) I was happy that it was going to be as soon as possible, and (the decision) also helped me plan out how my future started looking.”
Applicants who did not receive a decision on Friday are set to receive a decision alongside regular applicants on Saturday, according to an email from the Office of Admissions.
“On Feb. 7 we processed about 13,500 admission offers for Fall 2025 freshmen,” University spokesperson Mike Rosen said in an email statement. “The admission process is ongoing, and more detailed official numbers are not available until after the 20th class day of the fall term.”
However, Bongale still feels disappointed even after she received her decision, and she said the University could have communicated better about the deferred admissions and process.
“I feel a little bit disappointed,” Bongale said. “There could have been better transparency. It was a little bit last minute, (and while) I was excited that it was coming out a week earlier, … they could have at least told us a little bit better about what was going on.”
