“How you guys doing?” Benson Boone said to the largest crowd of Sips & Sounds Music Festival. “It’s been a couple of months since I’ve (done this) … but damn I’m glad it’s Texas baby.”
Jam packed with high notes, gymnastics and witty remarks that captured his audience’s attention and fed the electric energy, Boone’s set warmed audience members during the unexpected chilly night on Saturday.
Boone started his music career in 2021 with his song “Ghost Town,” which charted in more than 10 countries and made it onto the Billboard Hot 100 list. Living up to expectations, Boone is known for his active and dynamic performances, earning his place among top performers despite his quick rise to success.
Following his band out onto the stage in their matching red and white 70s-inspired outfits, Boone began his set with “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else,” bringing his mic stand to the center stage and shocking the audience with his first high note of the night.
“I thought that would be a bra,” Boone said, joking with a fan who threw a shirt onto the stage. He then jumped down from the stage and into the pit, greeting his fans before providing a cheeky transition into his song “Cry.”
“Some (people) know all my lyrics, some know none,” Boone said. “And some just look at me and cry.”
As the only Sips & Sounds performer to run around off the stage, Boone displayed his showmanship with his first front flip of the night, jumping off his grand piano and landing on his feet.
Transitioning into a sentimental mood, Boone performed an unreleased song from his album set to release sometime in 2025. Titled “The Momma Song,” Boone dedicated the song to his parents, whom he said “he can’t be who he is without.”
Despite the sentimentality of the song, Boone performed another flip before immediately holding a long high note. He made eye contact with the cameras and crowd members, ensuring he put on a show and not just a concert.
Consistent with the familial inspired songs, Boone sang “In The Stars,” a song about his late grandmother. Before performing, he lightly mocked a crowd member for attempting to throw him a hat during his heartfelt speech.
“You’re giving me a hat?” Boone said. “Girl, my grandma died, compare and contrast.”
Despite the remarks, he donned the sparkly white cowboy hat for a song before getting the crowd to sing his back up lyrics “Benson’s in red, and I don’t want to go home.” The crowd laughed as Boone showed off his stage presence and personality.
Spoiling the audience, Boone performed another unreleased song, “Young American Heart.” The song set a heartfelt and vibrant atmosphere, aided by the fireworks and Boone’s face-to-face interaction with the audience.
Boone finally played his most well-known and beloved song, “Beautiful Things,” before parading around the stage, bowing and going into the crowd where he hugged and thanked audience members.
“I need Austin, Texas, baby,” Boone said, ending his show and proving to be the more interactive and immersive Sips & Sounds performance.
