For those staying in town over fall break and looking for community and connection, The Daily Texan compiled a list of places to enjoy a free Thanksgiving meal.
H-E-B Feast of Sharing – 900 Barton Springs Rd., 2.1 miles from campus
H-E-B and United Way for Greater Austin will host the 36th annual H-E-B Feast of Sharing on Nov. 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Palmer Events Center. Fueled by volunteers and open to the public, the feast will offer a Thanksgiving meal, festive fun and music.
Mount Olive Baptist Church – 1800 East 11th St., 2.3 miles from campus
For a dinner with “turkey and all of the fixings,” head over to Mount Olive Baptist Church. The church will serve meals in the Mt. Olive Fellowship Hall on Thanksgiving Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The church also accepts food and drink donations, including cooked and uncooked turkeys and hams, canned green beans, bottled water, pies and other Thanksgiving fixings. Iglesia Bautista Principe de Paz – 1204 Payton Gin Rd., 5.4 miles from campus
Providing meals on site or in to-go containers, Iglesia Bautista Principe de Paz will host their annual Thanksgiving meal on Nov. 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature live music and a drive-thru in the parking lot.
Operation Turkey offers a meal delivery service with “foods like turkey, stuffing, and vegetables”
between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day for eligible participants who sign up by Friday at 11:59 p.m. They also offer volunteer opportunities, such as cooking, decorating, packaging and plating food for individuals of all ages.
2025 Thanksgiving Day Feast, 4430 Menchaca Rd., 5 miles from campus
Sunrise Community Church will host their 2025 Thanksgiving Day Feast at the Sunrise Homeless Navigation Center on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to a meal, they will offer a clothing and hygiene product giveaway station for basic needs.
