Amid the end of the 2025 college football season, the transfer portal has opened, bringing the landscape of its contestants into chaos. When the transfer portal opened on Jan. 2, over 4,500 Division I players were among the bedlam.
Texas football is no anomaly to that. As of Jan. 2, 18 Texas players have expressed their intent to enter the transfer portal, with 10 being from the offensive side. With more names potentially joining, here are the most impactful five so far:
Quintrevion Wisner — Junior Running Back
Wisner led the Longhorns in rushing this past year with 597 yards on 4.6 yards per attempt, but his performances game-for-game left Longhorn fans mostly disappointed. The incoming senior only cracked over 100 yards against Texas A&M, in which the running back went for 155 yards on the ground on 19 carries. Wisner is currently ranked as the fourth-best halfback in the portal, per 247Sports.
CJ Baxter Jr. — Sophomore Running Back
Once the best running back from his high school class, the former five-star has left much to be desired. Baxter finished his freshman campaign in terrific form, rushing for 659 yards and placing second behind now-Panther Jonathon Brooks in rushing leaders in 2023. But after an LCL and PCL tear in a summer practice in 2024, Baxter missed the entire sophomore season, and his comeback as a redshirt sophomore was dimmed with more injuries. Baxter is the eighth-best halfback in the portal, per 247Sports, and the Floridian may make a comeback elsewhere in college football.
Parker Livingstone — Redshirt Freshman Wide Receiver
As the starting quarterback’s roommate, Livingstone and Arch Manning were the breakout duo of Texas football this season, with this former three-star raking in 516 receiving yards, third most of all Texas receivers this year. Livingstone also had six receiving touchdowns, just one behind stat leader sophomore Ryan Wingo.
Livingstone’s portal announcement was a surprise, but his inner circle stated this was a move of playing opportunity, not of NIL possibilities.
DeAndre Moore Jr. — Junior Wide Receiver
Moore, who could have been drafted this April, will instead play out his final year of eligibility elsewhere. The 6-foot speedster is the third-best receiver in the transfer portal and 10th-best overall. The rising senior caught 38 balls on 532 receiving yards this past season for Texas, second-most on the team despite missing a pair of games while recovering from foot surgery in the offseason.
Trey Owens — Redshirt Freshman Quarterback
What Owens lacks in game tape, he has in size. Standing at 6-foot-5, 219 pounds, the former four-star quarterback has put his name into the portal. Once the 16th-best slinger in his class, Owens is listed as the No. 29 quarterback available in this year’s cycle of transfer quarterbacks. A Cypress product, Owens was the District 17-6A Offensive Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. Now, Owens will look to make an impact outside the Forty Acres.
