Laughs on the lineup: must-see acts at SXSW’s comedy festival

With laughs and cheers expected to fill its venues, the South by Southwest comedy festival takes place from March 10-14, with intermittent programming through March 18. The Daily Texan compiled a list of stand-ups, improvisers and writers to watch for at the comedy festival.
Caleb Hearon
March 13, 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at The Creek and the Cave
Performing at stand-up comedy showcase “We Used To Be Funny,” Caleb Hearon’s candid humor makes him a must-see comedian. While Hearon has experience doing stand-up, he also most recently played the role of Jeremy Bernier in “Jurassic World: Dominion.”
Eric André
March 10, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The Creek and the Cave
March 12, 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at Esther’s Follies
Set to be honored for his ‘Cult Favorite’ award at Variety’s Power of Comedy event, Eric André will turn heads as a part of SXSW’s special programming. The “The Eric André Show” creator and host imbues surreal and absurdist comedy into his sets.
Phoebe Robinson
March 10, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The Creek and the Cave
Phoebe Robinson, co-creator and co-star of “2 Dope Queens,” will receive the Comedy Innovator award at the Variety Power of Comedy event. Robinson’s openly candid essay collections have led her to become a New York Times best seller.
Rachel Sennott

March 13, 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. the at The Creek and the Cave
Named the “Breakthrough Artist” by Variety and set to be honored at the publication’s Power of Comedy event, Rachel Sennott will host the stand-up comedy showcase “We Used To Be Funny.” Sennott’s strong and energetic comedic instincts permeate all her performances, stand-up and acting alike.
Reggie Watts
March 11, 10 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. at Esther’s Follies
March 12, 10 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. at Esther’s Follies
Comedian and musician Reggie Watts will make a couple of appearances at the comedy festival, through “Good Trip Live: A Night of Comedy and Psychedelic Stories” and “Riffs and Riff-Raff with Nick Thume & Friends.” Providing an insight into his mind through absurdist humor, Watts’s work keeps audiences engaged and present in the moment through musical comedy.
Tim Robinson
March 10, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The Creek and the Cave
Tim Robinson, star and co-creator of Netflix comedy series “I Think You Should Leave,” will receive the Sketch Comedy award at the Variety Power of Comedy event. With his Netflix series gaining acclaim, this former Saturday Night Live writer and cast member has made waves in the comedy industry.
ASSSSCAT
March 11, 8 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. at Esther’s Follies
As part of special programming, Upright Citizens Brigade’s ASSSSCAT brings a classic show to the SXSW stage as a completely unscripted improvisation act. The group will perform improvisation based on a celebrity guest monologue, which will inform and inspire scenes throughout the show.
