The College of Education officially renamed the Sport Management Hall to the Bryan and Andree Moynihan Sport Management Hall after a UT alumnus and his wife on Feb. 6.
Matthew Bowers, the director of the sport management program, said the Moynihans’ created a Sport Management Club, which Bryan advises, and they sponsor students to participate in various internships. Some of these internships have reached jobs outside of Austin, including the Miami Dolphins, the Kansas City Chiefs and Apple in San Francisco, Bowers said.
“(Bryan is) somebody who has so much pride in being a Longhorn,” Bowers said. “It’s really cool to see somebody who cares and wants things to be easier for the next generation than it was for him.”
Bryan and Andree Moynihan have been active members within the department and work to further financially support students in their academic careers, according to a College of Education press release.
“My passion is to help students that are coming up to do internships, and to gain that experience they need to get into this field,” Bryan said. “Having a network and having mentors, having folks that students can reach out to is invaluable.”
Bryan began his career in sport management after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 1991 with a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and a minor in business management. Moynihan said combining his kinesiology and business management classes gave him a “leg up on the competition” when searching for jobs, as there weren’t many sport management programs available at the time, he said.
Bryan said Andree has a degree in Education from Sam Houston State University, which has helped her understand the needs of up-and-coming students looking for a career.
“She’s my life partner, and we do everything together,” Bryan said. “She was very willing and able to join me in the financial and personal support … She is totally in, and as a partnership, we both are moving forward with this.”
