Whether it’s reloading through recruiting, navigating the transfer portal, or, in Texas’ case, ushering in a new coaching era, the offseason is anything but quiet. Just hours after parting ways with former head coach Rodney Terry, athletic director Chris Del Conte moved swiftly, announcing the hiring of Sean Miller in under 24 hours.
And with that, the next chapter of Texas basketball was underway.
Sean Miller comes to Texas with a revised coaching staff from his last stint at Xavier University. Adam Cohen, David Miller and Ryan Anderson all moved from the Musketeers to Texas as assistant coaches, and Ryan Reynolds, the previous director of operations at Xavier, will take the position of chief of staff here on the Forty Acres.
Here’s what they bring to the table:
Adam Cohen – Assistant Coach
Sean Miller’s associate at Xavier last season, Cohen, comes to Texas with 17 years of coaching experience. As an assistant coach, Cohen spent the last three years under Miller at Xavier, six at Stanford, two at Vanderbilt and one at Rice University. Before Rice, Cohen spent three years at the University of Southern California, serving as the video coordinator for the first two and director of operations for his final season.
Known to be a strong recruiter, Cohen helped bring notable names to Stanford, such as Ziaire Williams and Harrison Ingram, both McDonald’s All-Americans by their senior years in high school. Expect Cohen to help build the roster in recruiting as much as he will help Texas win on the court.
David Miller – Assistant Coach
Miller will step into his eighth season in Sean Miller’s coaching staff, having served in an assistant position during Sean’s time at Xavier, as well as the director of on-campus recruiting and basketball analytics at the University of Arizona. En route to begin his thirteenth year in college basketball, Miller has spent the last four years as an assistant coach at both San Jose State and Xavier.
Ryan Anderson – Assistant Coach
A former star player for head coach Sean Miller back in 2015-16 at Arizona, Anderson averaged 15.3 points and 10.1 rebounds in his senior year. Most recently, Anderson spent the past three seasons under Sean Miller at Xavier. Anderson was director of recruiting in his first year on staff before becoming Miller’s assistant coach and director of player development for the past two seasons.
Ryan Reynolds – Chief of Staff
Reynolds will begin his first year at Texas as Sean Miller’s chief of staff. He comes with 18 years of collegiate coaching experience, notably spending 16 of those seasons with Miller beginning back in 2007. Together, they have been to 10 NCAA tournaments with four trips to the Elite Eight.
