The UT System Board of Regents voted Wednesday to appoint Jim Davis as the new UT president, according to a system news release.
Davis was appointed as the interim president in February, and named the sole finalist for University president in July by the board, according to previous Texan coverage. Davis is succeeding former President Jay Hartzell, who stepped down from his position in January to serve as the president for Southern Methodist University.
“I’m grateful for the trust of Chairman Eltife and the Board of Regents and am honored to serve as our University’s president,” Davis said in the press release.
Kevin Eltife, chairman of the system, said he has no doubt that under Davis’s leadership, the University will achieve even higher levels as one of the world’s great public universities.
“Jim Davis has a remarkable track record of getting monumental things done on the Forty Acres,” Eltife said in the press release.
