Two hours before the scheduled Billboard THE STAGE at SXSW show at Moody Amphitheatre at Waterloo Park, South by Southwest informed concert-goers that Amsterdam native DJ Mau P (Maurits Jan Westveen) would be canceled due to severe weather conditions, moved indoors to the Concourse Project and made a free show open to the public.
Despite the venue being located an inconvenient 20 minute drive from Austin’s city center, fans of the tech house DJ rushed to the venue that holds over 2,000 people near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Doors opened at 9 p.m., but a massive line and stringent security delayed entrance with many waiting in line for hours past the promised time.
However, patience was rewarded with remixed hits of “neck” and “MERTHER” by Mau P who began his set at 12:03 a.m. The Carnival Cruise sponsored event featured free ice cream and temporary tattoos, ushering in guests from the whipping winds of the sudden cold front.
Concourse Project — included at No. 27 in the Top 100 Clubs List by DJ Mag in 2025 — immersed audiences in a thrumming, bass and flashing laser-heavy show, the air thick with the smell of blue-raspberry and miami mint flavored vapes and synthetic poppers. Sweating bodies pushed upon one another, illuminated briefly under seizure-inducing lights while music pulsated from massive speakers, the bass titillating from head-to-toe.
The Targaryen-haired DJ mixed elements of hard techno and afro-house with his own “Like I Like it” and “BEATS FOR THE UNDERGROUND,” bringing swirling red lights to an audience clad with sunglasses and pashminas.
Mau P continued his bass-heavy onslaught with remixed versions of “Hot in Herre” by Nelly and “Mercy” by Kanye West feat. Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz. The DJ wore Matrix-style sunglasses and silver hoop earrings while the crowd oscillated beneath him, waving oversized fans and gyrating in tune with the fast-paced, undulating extended tracks. The DJ brought exactly what fans expected, a dark-techno show mixed with frenetic lighting that satisfied the need for sultry basslines and punchy drums.
