Austin events for Aug. 28

It is the first day of school. That means you really need something fun to look forward to tonight. We've compiled a short list of things to keep you busy and away from your homework!

1. Sound & Cinema at the Long Center

Local band Hello Wheels plays hits from the 1950s and 1980s before a screening of "Back to the Future." Snack on treats from Frank, Blue Ox BBQ and Whole Foods while you're at it. More info.

2. Rob Sheffield at BookPeople

If you haven't stopped by Austin's favorite local bookstore yet, now is the perfect time. Sheffield is a contributing editor at Rolling Stone and the author of best selling novels like "Love is a Mixtape." He'll talk with Joe Gross from the Austin American-Statesman about his new book at 7 p.m. More info.

3. Movie night at Alamo Drafthouse The Ritz

For a low-key night see one of the movies showing at the Alamo Drafthouse The Ritz. It's located on Sixth Street and is easily accessible by bus. Buy tickets here.
