Monday, July 27

What: El Cosmico Pop-Up Shop and Marfa Party


Where: Hotel San Jose, 1316 S. Congress Ave.

Time: 3 p.m.–10 p.m.

Inside the lounge at Hotel San Jose, peruse goods for sale from the West Texas hipster town of Marfa. The pop-up shop and party will feature a new cocktail especially made for the event and music from DJ Feelin’ Groovy.

Tuesday, July 28

What: Under The Chandelier Summer Music Series featuring The Motel Ball Band & JD Clark  

Where: Spider House Cafe, 2908 Fruth St.

Time: 7 p.m.

Spider House presents a free outdoor music series that showcases some of the lesser appreciated genres of music — from world music to honky tonk. This Tuesday, attendees can expect live performances from local honky tonk group The Motel Ball Band and solo country artist JD Clark.

What: Greetings, From Queer Mountain Ep 27: Just A Fling

Where: Cheer Up Charlie’s, 900 Red River St.

Time: 8 p.m. doors, 9 p.m. show

The free, monthly LGBT storytelling event, Greetings, From Queer Mountain, gives local members of the LGBT community an opportunity to share personal stories in front of an audience. A lineup of seven speakers are set to perform this month, recalling personal stories that align with the show’s theme: “Just a Fling.”

Thursday, July 30

What: The Free Fringe

Where: The Hideout Theatre, 617 Congress Ave.

Time: 10 p.m.

Familiarize yourself with Austin’s growing improv scene at the free show The Free Fringe held every Thursday at the Hideout Theatre. Each week’s show will be wildly different from the last — from a cluster of improvisers tied together by rope one week to improvising dogs the next. Friday, July 31

What: It’s Gonna Be Free: A 2000s Dance Party

Where: The Highball, 1120 S. Lamar Blvd.

Time: 10:30 p.m.

Celebrate the glorious 2000s this Friday with the Action Pack, a branch of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema that puts on interactive events. Music from classic turn-of-the-century artists, such as Outkast, Shakira and Gwen Stefani, will fill the speakers at the It’s Gonna Be Free: A 2000s Dance Party held at the Highball.

Saturday, August 1

What: Sure Thing comedy show

Where: Austin Java, 1206 Parkway

Time: 7:30 p.m. doors, 8 p.m. start

Every Saturday night, a lineup of several Austin-based comedians perform in the back room of local coffee shop Austin Java. Past comedians include Funniest Person in Austin-winners, out-of-town guests and performers seen on Comedy Central, The Tonight Show and The Late Show with David Letterman. Arrive 30 minutes early to guarantee seating for the 8 p.m. show.

What: Super Nintendo Sunday (SNESunday)

Where: Mohawk Austin,  912 Red River St.

Time: 5 p.m.–8 p.m.

Close out your week with three hours of free gaming at The Mohawk. The 21+ event invites gamers to compete using consoles such as Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Nintendo and Nintendo 64.
