According to ESPN’s John Goodman, freshman Andrew Jones will follow teammate Jarrett Allen and enter the NBA draft. Like Allen, Jones will not hire an agent, keeping the possibility of a Texas return open.

“My family and I have decided that it is best for me to test the waters,” Jones said. “We want to see where I stand in the draft, but we’re also looking to improve my game as well. We are looking to get accurate feedback from NBA personnel to know my scouting report, so that I can get better during the offseason.”

The guard has decided to test NBA waters after a solid freshman campaign. Jones averaged 11.4 points and 3.5 assists in his first year with the Longhorns. After sophomore guard Tevin Mack was suspended midseason, Jones ramped up his production, posting double-digit scoring numbers in 15 of the season’s last 17 contests. According to Chad Ford’s latest big board, Jones is the 28th rated player in this year’s draft class.

The potential loss of both Allen and Jones would be a huge blow to Texas. The two developed into the Longhorn’s primary offensive weapons, at times carrying the team down the stretch. Texas is in a decent position to combat such losses, with the sixth-ranked recruiting class for 2017.
