Update (7:03 p.m.): APD is waiting for autopsy results to move forward with the investigation, according to an Austin-American Statesman article.

Emanuel was also a member of the Texas Iron Spikes at UT.

“The Texas Iron Spikes are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of one of our own, Lawrence Ray Emanuel III,” the Iron Spikes said in a statement. “Lawrence was an incredible friend; his laughter was contagious, he treated everyone with respect and he showed so much love to everyone he cared about. We will miss Lawrence deeply, and our organization sends our most heartfelt condolences to Lawrence’s friends and family.”

Update (3:28 p.m.): Education senior Lawrence Emanuel fell from a balcony in West Campus on Saturday night and died shortly after.

The incident took place around 10:12 p.m. at 2505 San Gabriel Street in West Campus, APD spokeswoman Stephanie Jacksis said. This location matches the Texan Tower condominiums.

Emanuel was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center following the fall, where he was pronounced dead at 1:16 a.m. on Sunday, Jacksis said.

APD is investigating the incident as an accidental death.

At this time it is unknown if the balcony was Emanuel’s apartment or someone else’s, Jacksis said.

“The loss of Lawrence is devastating to our entire University. We express our deepest sympathies to his family and friends,” UTPD spokeswoman Cindy Posey said in a statement. “The University said the school’s counseling services and other programs will be available for students as they mourn.”

The funeral for Emanuel will be held March 3 with a wake held Friday evening. The times and addresses have not been set yet, according to a GoFundMe set up for Emanuel’s funeral expenses.

Additionally, a candlelight vigil will be held in the courtyard of Westside High School in Houston on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The GoFundMe was set up by Lydia Breedlove, an athletic training and allied health professions senior and had surpassed the original $20,000 goal by Tuesday afternoon. The goal was then raised to $25,000.

“I think anyone who knew Lawrence would want him to be remembered by how he lived his life, not how he passed away,” Breedlove said. “Lawrence was one of the nicest people I have ever known. He was an incredible son, brother, boyfriend and friend. He was loved by every single person that he had even the smallest interaction with. That is why I consider myself lucky to have been able to call him my friend for so many years. He will never be forgotten.”
