University Housing and Dining is opening a new ramen restaurant in the Texas Union after six months of preparation.
Noodle Lab will open to the public on Monday, after an invitation-based soft launch this week to finalize operations, said Lenore Musick, assistant vice president of dining for UHD, in an email statement.
The process is fully self-serve. Students will be able to pick their noodles and toppings before checking out, and they can cook their ramen at the heating station. There is a video of the process on the UHD Instagram page.
“We conducted market research and found the noodle concept is a trend growing among small markets and convenience stores nationwide,” Musick said.
UHD used a survey to settle on a ramen shop to fill the vacant spot that formerly housed a market in the Texas Union, Musick said.
“We also evaluated student feedback from our campuswide dining survey and presented the opportunity to deliver this concept to our community as a standalone restaurant,” Musick said.
The restaurant will take Dine-In Dollars like other businesses in the Union. UHD will also be hiring student staff to work at the Noodle Lab, who can apply through Workday, Musick said.
Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect Lenore Musick’s correct title and clarify the use of the heating stations. The Texan regrets these errors.
