Mike Davis scores a touchdown at the end of the first half against New Mexico. The Longhorns lead 17-0 at the half.

It wasn’t pretty, but thanks to a couple of impressive individual efforts Texas finds itself up 17-0 over New Mexico at the half.

David Ash put the Longhorns on the scoreboard early in the game, scrambling his way to a 49-yard touchdown run on fourth and one. Ash pulled it down pretty quickly, and effectively snaked his way down the field outpacing the Lobo pursuit.

Near the end of the half Ash led Texas for another score on a 22-yard pass to Mike Davis. The play came on third and 16 on a crossing pattern, and Davis was able to weave his way past a pair of would be tacklers to reach the goal line.

The defense employed a bend but not break attitude to keep New Mexico scoreless. Early in drives the triple option seemed to give the Longhorns a bit of trouble, but Texas never allowed the Lobos to reach the redzone, despite their 142 yards of offense.

Freshman kicker Nick Jordan added the Longhorns other three points when he kicked a 38-yard field goal in the first quarter.
