Mack Brown comments about new defensive coordinator Greg Robinson

One day after naming Greg Robinson as Manny Diaz’s replacement at defensive coordinator, head coach Mack Brown gave a vote of confidence to his Diaz's successor on Monday.

“Greg brings a wealth of knowledge,” Brown said. “He is a true veteran. He is a guy that has three Rose Bowl rings and a Super Bowl ring, so he has been there before.”

Robinson has 36 years of coaching experience under his belt. He was part of two Super Bowl winning teams as well as Texas’ 2004 Rose Bowl Championship squad.

Brown remembers Robinson making a major impact as the Longhorns co-defensive coordinator in 2004, and he expects the players to enjoy playing for him.

“He makes great adjustments,” Brown said. “When he was here before, we tackled very well. We chased the ball. We were very sound, fundamentally, and he’s a guy that kids love to play for.”

Brown said that Robinson watched every Longhorns practice this season since beginning in the team's new football analyst position on July 1. Although he only has three practices as coordinator before Saturday’s game against Ole Miss, Brown believes Robinson’s influence will be felt quickly.

“Greg, to me, is one of the great teachers that’s out there,” Brown said.
